Who is Guy White?
Guy White is a young man who was born and grew up in the Wairarapa region of New Zealand. He had a passion for the great outdoors, for learning and was a natural teacher. Guy died in Val d'Aosta, Italy on the 12th of February 2000. He was 29 years old and he was on a climbing trip with friends when he slipped and fell to his death.
Why was The Guy Houlbrooke White Memorial Trust set up?
A group of Guy's friends suggested that a way to remember him and his work would be to set up a Trust to sponsor young people to attend the Outward Bound course at Anakiwa. His family fully supported this idea as a way to continue the work he had been doing.
What does The Guy Houlbrooke White Trust do?
We raise money to send young people from the Wairarapa College catchment area to Outward Bound courses.
Why did you pick young people from the Wairarapa College catchment area as the target group?
Guy grew up in the Wairarapa and attended Wairarapa College for five years, so when we set up the Trust we decided to use the College students as those who could apply for the scholarships to attend Outward Bound.
How can I help?
There are multiple ways to help. You can donate money to the Trust. You may have specific skill or resource that is particularly suited to helping us raise money or select young people to attend Outward Bound, and you can lend a helping hand. You may be willing to organize an event to raise money for the Trust. However you can help is great: resource, skills, finance, information, whatever.
